VESP#12 – Tower to Tower
27th July 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Two of York’s oldest towers provide the starting point for us to reimagine York’s past and potential futures.
Clifford’s Tower is one of the city’s most iconic buildings, built in the 13th Century this elevated castle was once a prison and royal mint. The nearby lesser known and peculiarly named ‘Bitchdaughter Tower’ was once a guardhouse and gun platform.
Taking inspiration from these two sites, artists Claire Hind and Gary Winters delve into the 949 years of hard facts, forgotten accounts, contested stories, pipe dreams and local gossip since the first fortifications were built on these sites.
