VESP#13 Hop Skip and a Micklegate Run
28th August 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 6:30 pmFree
Hop Skip and a Micklegate Run 10am – 6pm Sunday 28th August
Various Venues including Micklegate Bar, Holy Trinity Church and The Stained Glass Centre at St Martin Cum Gregory. Part of The Micklegate Soap Box Challenge.
This August a number of Micklegate’s traders are reinventing the street for a soapbox run! Local teams have designed and created their own motorless vehicle carts to race along the street as part of a community celebration.
Follow the trail of venues all hosting DIY inspired arts activities.
10-6pm Micklegate Bar Museum Henry VII experience: Collect your Micklegate Artists’ Passport and play I-spy. Once you have matched all the drawings with Micklegate street numbers, take your passport to The Stained Glass Centre to claim your treat. Micklegate Passport gives you free entry to the exhibition – only one required per group. (There is no disabled access at Micklegate Bar unfortunately, passports will also be available at The Stained Glass centre.)
10-6pm Holy Trinity Church: Help collectively decorate Holy Trinity’s Church Yard, have your photo taken in a soap box cart with artist Kasia Breska and continue the I-Spy activity by seeking out the many mini sculptures (by illustrator Beth Rose) inside the church. (Free entry)
10-6pm Stained Glass Centre at St Martin Cum Gregory: Dance as part of interactive installation – Sonolope – which enables you to generate soundscapes using a smartwatch that tracks your movement. Come and experience how it feels to be directly connected to a sound! Also remix Micklegate using OHPs and perspex buildings. Refreshments will be available. (Free entry)
5.30pm onwards Main Stage: Join us for the musical finale with alt pop band Cowtown followed by Japanese musician ICHI, who combines handmade instrument inventions with steel-drums, ping-pong balls and tape-loops.
I-SPY Guide – copies are still available to collect from Micklegate Bar Museum.
