You are warmly invited to the launch of Vespertine, an exciting programme of eventide events. The first of the series is a partnership between York City Screen and York Churches Partnership. Technological innovators and pioneering digital artists Leeds Hackspace will present interactive light and sound sculpture Cubed in St Martin's church. ----------This event is now fully booked-------- English Heritages’ little-known but gripping time-capsule The York Cold War Bunker provides the back-drop for archive film footage and immersive site-responsive soundscapes. In active service from the 1960s–1990s the bunker was designed as a nerve-centre to monitor fallout in the event of a nuclear attack. The bunker was the largest of a network across Yorkshire. Vespertine cordially invites the people of York and beyond, to a guided tour of the Mansion House with a twist! This event will be a rare opportunity to see the Mansion House as it is awaiting renovation; the unfurnished, raw building will provide the perfect backdrop for performances and music. Contributions include photographs by fine artist Rhianna Mayhew, performances by Sheffields 25 piece ‘anti-choir’ Juxtavoices and two piece multi-instrumental band McWatt as well as a Mansion House inspired sound installation…Find out more »
A unique opportunity to spend some time in the depths of the Castle Museum.
Pilot theatre invite you to follow the stories of characters drawn from myth and reality, past and present; on their journeys connecting to the prison cells. There will be family workshops and artistic responses inspired by graffiti and poetry taken from the prison cell walls. Exciting and groundbreaking archaeological research taking place at University of York is the inspiration for Vespertine’s final event of 2015! Phytoliths, skeletons of cells that allow identification of plants from 1000s of years ago, giving us vital information about our history, are to be transformed into 3-D printed sculptures, light projections and festive decorations.Find out more »
