A unique opportunity to experience one of York’s heritage sites in a completely new and unexpected way with an installation inspired by the Pilot Theatre production ‘A Restless Place’ . Enter through the locked doors of the York Castle Museum into corridors and cells housing lost voices and found stories, tales of home and the search for belonging. Verbatim testimonies blend with folktale as you meet characters drawn from both myth and reality on their journeys into the unknown.
Beautiful animations by Hondartza Fraga will light up the cells accompanied by a soundscape of stories taken directly from the play. The Print Project will also be on hand in the museum courtyard for you to create your own artistic responses using their hand operated printing presses, exploring the question ‘What does home mean to you?’.
Inspired by graffiti and poetry taken from the prison cell walls as well the verbatim stories collected as part of ‘A Restless Place’, VESP#05 will be part of this year’s Illuminating York. Food will also be provided to fuel hungry festival-goers.
